The outlawed United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) has claimed responsibility for planting bombs at 19 locations across Assam on Independence Day, including eight in the state capital, Guwahati.

The militant outfit, which seeks a "sovereign Assam," stated that the bombs failed to detonate due to technical errors.

The group had intended to trigger the explosives between 6 am and 12 noon as part of an "armed protest" against the Independence Day celebrations.

ULFA-I also released a list of the targeted sites, accompanied by photographs, including one near the state secretariat in Dispur, Guwahati.

In response, the Assam Police have launched an investigation and dispatched teams to search for the explosives as per the locations listed by the banned outfit.

The ULFA-I has consistently boycotted Independence Day events in the past, maintaining its stance for a separate Assam.

Authorities have heightened security measures across the state following the threat, ensuring no casualties despite the failed attempt.
