As many as 164 people have been rescued from Dharali and Harshil and airlifted to the ITBP Matli helipad, the Uttarakhand government said. Officials said that essential supplies are being sent to the affected areas by helicopter. Rescued people are given first aid and then safely sent to their destinations as per their convenience.
The government said rescue teams are working in the disaster-hit areas of Harshil and Dharali, and all types of relief materials are being made available.
Under “Operation Dharali,” the Indian Army has successfully restored mobile and internet connectivity in Harsil. The Army repaired a damaged optical fibre cable, originally meant for Army communication, which had been cut off due to flash floods.
Despite ongoing rain, bridges damaged near Limchigad, close to Harsil, were repaired at night on August 8 by Army personnel and the civil administration. This restored road connectivity to the area.
Rescue work continues as disaster response forces try to reach those still stranded in Uttarkashi after the cloudburst. Four days after the floods, 566 people had been evacuated by Friday noon, while efforts were still on to rescue 300 more.
So far, five people have died and 50 remain missing. The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) is using advanced tools like victim-locating cameras and thermal imaging cameras to search for survivors. Dog squads are also helping in the search.
Mobile networks are now working again in the Harsil valley, but landslides have disrupted the Char Dham Yatra.
