In a joint operation with Military Intelligence, Pune Police arrested Mohit Dhami, a man from Uttarakhand, for allegedly defrauding two individuals of Rs 4.8 lakh by promising them Army jobs despite their ineligibility due to age restrictions.
Dhami, who claimed to be an employee at the Army Command Hospital in Pune, was arrested after a 23-year-old man from Dhule, Maharashtra, lodged a complaint.
According to the police, Dhami had assured the two victims that he could help them secure Army jobs, even though they had exceeded the age limit for recruitment.
The two men, who had traveled to Pune in March 2024 to appear for the Staff Selection exam, met Dhami during their visit. He introduced himself as an employee at the Army Command Hospital and promised to facilitate their recruitment.
Despite knowing they were not eligible due to age restrictions, he convinced them to pay him for his services.
Initially requesting Rs 5,000 from each man, Dhami later manipulated the victims into paying a total of Rs 4.8 lakh. Once the men realised they had been scammed, they filed a complaint with the police.
Dhami was arrested under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Authorities are continuing their investigation into the case.
