Senior journalist and author K.S. Chawla passed away on June 25 after a brief illness, leaving a void in the world of journalistic excellence.
Having covered Punjab for more than four decades, Chawla had had a distinguished career as a writer with analytic precision, factual acumen, and deep knowledge of the state.
He was considered an authority on the Punjab’s political affairs, having penned three books, including ‘Resurrecting Punjab: A Journo’s Journey’ and ‘Punjab: Victim of Factional Power Politics’.
Chawla’s career in the leading English daily, The Tribune, as a staff correspondent took him to significant assignments including covering the inauguration of the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) in 1963 to the tumultuous years of militancy in Punjab.
Belonging to an illustrious family of veteran journalists, Chawla’s brothers – G.S. Chawla and T.A. Chawla – are both prominent journalists too. Chawla would also regularly contribute to his brother T.S. Chawla’s monthly journal, ‘The Barricade’.
Before joining The Tribune, Chawla held editorial roles at various prestigious publications including Partap, The Indian Express, Financial Express, and The Times of India. His career was marked by unwavering ethics, clear-headed analysis, and a deep commitment to journalistic responsibility.
More recently, he helped establish the Senior Citizen Bhawan in Rajguru Nagar, Ludhiana, with support from the government. He had also served as the Bhawan’s President. He is survived by his brothers G.S. Chawla and T.S. Chawla.
His cremation took place in Ludhiana on June 26.
