A pre-secondary school in Seegana village of Agra has been plunged into disrepute after a video emerged online capturing the principal assaulting a teacher.
The incident, filmed by a bystander, has caused outrage amongst parents and education officials.
The footage shows the principal engaged in a physical altercation with teacher Gunjan Choudhary.
The apparent trigger for the confrontation was Choudhary's alleged tardiness.
The video depicts Choudhary attempting to free herself from the principal's grip, with accusations of torn clothes exchanged between the two. The principal's driver is also seen intervening and reportedly misbehaving towards Choudhary.
A voice, presumably from another teacher, can be heard on the recording condemning the principal's actions. "This will be filmed," the voice warns. "Madam is being rude. Does this befit you?"
The incident reportedly left Choudhary injured. Later that day, the two women were again filmed hurling insults and accusations at each other, with both resorting to unbecoming language.
Choudhary's defiant cries of, "Maar ke dikhade agar dum hain toh. Kya kar lega tu aur tera driver (beat me if you have guts. What will you and your driver do)?" stand in stark contrast to the expected decorum in a school environment.
The principal's retort, "Kisiki dadagiri nahi chalegi yaha (There will be no bullying here)," while seemingly self-righteous, rings hollow in the face of her violent actions.
The principal filed a police complaint against the injured teacher following the altercation.
The authorities are currently investigating the matter.
