Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy aims to be in the race to tap artificial intelligence (AI) for infrastructure.

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy is optimistic about making the state a global hub of AI.

He is aiming to be in the race to tap artificial intelligence (AI) for infrastructure creation with plans to build an exclusive ‘AI City’.

Working towards the goal, the state has entered into 26 memorandums of understanding (MoUs) with various companies, start-ups and organisations in areas such as computer infrastructure, start-up innovation, generative AI, research and collaboration, skilling and data annotation.

Even as work begins on the 200-acre AI City, a future-ready facility proposed near Hyderabad to play host to MNCs, research institutions and start-ups, the government has tied up with the World Trade Centre Shamshabad to provide 200,000 sq. ft of office space for AI-driven companies, ensuring they commence operations swiftly.

It has been learnt that Nasscom (National Association of Software and Service Companies) will help the government in implementing the AI framework in the state.

Reddy believes: “No city is as perfectly ready for it as Hyderabad. We not only embrace the future but also create it.”

Reddy targets to unveil the roadmap for AI City as well as deploying the emerging technology to improve delivery of services to more than 10 million people by 2027.

For this, in all government offices, AI nodal officers are to be appointed as a facilitation measure achieve the deliverables.

The state will also promote the development of datasets and models that allow AI to account for state-specific nuances, including language and culture, since solutions developed using these assets will be more efficient, accurate and cost-effective, especially when deployed at a population scale.

A key focus of the National AI Mission will be to improve the country’s computer infrastructure and provide affordable computing resources to start-ups, researchers and students.

On its part, Telangana is to work with the international not-for-profit PATH and Nazara Technologies to build centres of excellence that would focus on promoting AI in crucial and emerging areas in the state.

It has also signed agreements with NxtWave, Amazon Web Services and Microsoft to develop talent and promote skill development among the youth. This is expected to benefit over 250,000 students and professionals.

A three-year agreement was signed with Nvidia Corporation to accelerate AI adoption in the state. This collaboration will provide AI training to 5,000 students from 200 technical and higher educational institutions through Nvidia’s Deep Learning Institute programme.

Meta, the parent of Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Threads, is joining hands with the Telangana government through a two-year deal to harness the power of AI to transform e-governance and boost citizen services.

Since most organisations are looking at how to balance risk with opportunity as they move forward with their AI strategies, Telangana initiative gives Hyderabad a start.
