At least 277 individuals lost their lives, and over 200 sustained injuries in the recent devastating landslides in Wayanad, according to multiple reports. It is anticipated that these numbers will rise as rescue efforts continue to uncover more casualties. This tragic toll includes 23 children and 70 women.

 

The administration confirmed the identification of 100 bodies and the completion of post-mortems on 219 remains, which also include body parts.

 

Additionally, 221 individuals from the affected areas have been hospitalised, with 91 of them still receiving medical treatment.

 

Rescue teams in Wayanad are facing challenging conditions such as waterlogged soil as they tirelessly search through the wreckage of homes and buildings for survivors or victims. Numerous individuals are still unaccounted for in the aftermath of the landslides.

 

The government's official estimate on Wednesday evening stated that 191 people are currently unaccounted for, although it is believed that the actual number could be significantly higher.

 

The landslides occurred between 2 am and 4.10 am on Tuesday, catching residents by surprise as they slept, resulting in numerous fatalities.

 

Severe landslides caused by heavy rains struck the charming villages of Mundakkai, Chooralmala, Attamala, and Noolpuzha, leaving behind a path of fatalities, devastation, and hopelessness.
