The ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha today came down heavily against the West Bengal government for stopping commercial vehicles from Jharkhand along the states’ border at Maithon.
As per reports, commercial heavy vehicles from Jharkhand have been stopped at the West Bengal border for three days by orders from higher-ups in the West Bengal government owing to a dispute over “excessive” water being released by the Damodar Valley Corporation’s Maithon and Panchet Dams situated in Jharkhand.
JMM General Secretary cum Spokesperson Supriyo Bhattacharya said in a press conference on Friday that the water from dams has been released after due consultation with the Water Resources Department of West Bengal.
“The mental condition of Didi (Mamata Banerjee) doesn’t seem right. The DVC has made it clear yesterday itself that the water released from Maithon and Panchet dams were taken in consultation with the water resources department of West Bengal and DVC’s technical expert committee,” said Bhattacharya.
“Our government doesn’t bow down before anyone. Since Mamta Didi’s mental condition is not stable, she is levelling such false allegations and putting barriers at the border,” he added.
“Didi should have some compassion. Thousands of villages have been flooded in Jharkhand. We do not even get enough electricity from DVC, no water either. Even the royalty goes to Bengal,” said the JMM leader.
Notably, the West Bengal government sealed the Dibrugarh check post on Thursday evening, leading to the queuing up of heavy vehicles from Barakar Bridge to Maithon at NH-19 from Jharkhand.
Sources said that the order was issued by CM Mamata Banerjee, who has heavily criticised the Jharkhand government alleging the flood-like situation in West Bengal due to the release of excess water from Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) dams.
“This man-made flood is being planned in Bengal. I have spoken to DVC myself. I spoke to the Chief Minister of Jharkhand. ….Our government stands by the flood-affected people for any need. I have given necessary instructions to the administration in this regard,” she tweeted.
