The ruling Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and its NDA allies in Andhra Pradesh are preparing for another major show of strength on September 10 in Anantapur, a region long-affected by drought.
Titled "Super Six – Super Hit," the large public meeting is intended to maintain the momentum from the National Democratic Alliance's decisive victory in the 2024 Assembly elections and carry it forward into future polls. The immediate aim is to replicate their 2024 success in the local body elections scheduled for January 2026. The TDP hopes the event will further energise its supporters and prevent its main rival, the YSRCP, from regaining any lost ground.
The "Super Six – Super Hit" event is being seen as a strategic move by the TDP-led NDA to re-establish its governance credentials amidst persistent criticism from the Opposition. Held 15 months after the NDA came to power in Andhra Pradesh, the programme also serves as a self-appraisal of its performance to date. By focusing on women and farmers —two crucial voter demographics — the event aims to strengthen grassroots loyalty, particularly in Rayalaseema districts like Anantapur, which have traditionally been a Telugu Desam Party stronghold.
The meeting will be attended by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, Human Resource Development Minister Nara Lokesh, Finance Minister Payyavula Keshav, Revenue Minister Anagani Satyaprasad, and several others.
The event is designed not only as a celebration but also as a counteroffensive against the YSRCP's social media campaigns. Naidu has instructed party leaders not to remain silent against "misinformation," signalling a more assertive political stance to protect the government's image.
This meeting is expected to reflect the evolving political dynamics in Andhra Pradesh, where welfare populism continues to be a dominant topic of discussion. With the NDA portraying itself as a coalition of "good governance" in contrast to what it describes as the YSRCP's institutional damage, the September 10 gathering could be a crucial step in cementing Naidu’s reputation as a development-oriented leader.
Meanwhile, YSRCP staged a statewide agitation, ‘Annadatha Poru’ (fight of the farmer), on September 9, protesting alleged urea shortages and black marketing.
Preparations are well underway at the GMR Grounds on the outskirts of Anantapur. The event is set to be a grand display by the coalition government, showcasing the implementation of its "Super Six" welfare schemes just 15 months after taking office in June 2024. A large turnout is anticipated, with over 350,000 people expected to attend. Women are predicted to make up a significant portion of the audience as they are the direct beneficiaries of schemes such as free bus travel and Thalliki Vandanam.
Alliance leaders claim that all six promises have been fully implemented, bringing what they describe as "visible happiness" to households across Andhra Pradesh. Naidu recently said in another context, "We have made Super Six into a Super Hit. We have implemented the assurances given in our manifesto.”
Status of super six promises:
Free bus travel for women (APSRTC): Fully implemented. Launched on August 15, 2025. Has become instantly popular with women passengers.
