Reports emerged a couple of months ago suggesting Meta's interest in developing its own AI chatbot, adding to the growing competition in the field. While Apple had yet to unveil its own generative AI chatbot, it has been actively working on the technology. Recent reports revealed that Apple redirected its focus from an electric car project towards AI development, signaling its commitment to the burgeoning field.
In a move to bolster its AI capabilities, Apple reportedly acquired the AI startup DarwinAI. According to a Reuters report citing Bloomberg sources, the acquisition aimed to integrate DarwinAI's expertise into Apple's AI division, with a focus on enhancing the speed and efficiency of AI systems.
Although the financial terms of the acquisition were undisclosed, it is reported that Alexander Wong, a key AI researcher at DarwinAI, joined Apple as a director within its AI group. Furthermore, numerous DarwinAI employees have transitioned to roles within Apple's AI division, underlining Apple's commitment to strengthening its AI capabilities.
