The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has given its approval for the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between India and Oman on cooperation in the field of Information Technology.
The MoU, inked on December 15, 2023, between the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology of the Republic of India and the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology of the Sultanate of Oman, seeks to promote comprehensive cooperation through mutual support, technology sharing, information exchange, and investments in the realm of Information Technology.
Scheduled to come into effect from the date of its signing, the MoU will remain in force for a period of three years, during which both Governments will bolster Government-to-Government (G2G) and Business-to-Business (B2B) collaboration in the Information Technology sector. The agreement aims to enhance cooperation leading to the creation of employment opportunities within the IT sector.
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has been tasked with promoting international cooperation in emerging areas of Information and Communications Technology (ICT).
Over time, MeitY has forged partnerships with numerous countries and multilateral agencies to facilitate bilateral and multilateral cooperation in the ICT domain.
Aligned with India's digital initiatives such as Digital India, Atmanirbhar Bharat, and Make in India, the MoU signifies a strategic move towards transforming the nation into a digitally empowered society and knowledge economy. It underscores the importance of exploring business opportunities, sharing best practices, and attracting investments in the digital sector to bolster mutual cooperation between India and Oman.
