Gemini AI's responses on PM Modi are 'direct violations', Chandrasekhar warns Google India

In a recent turn of events, Union Minister of State for Electronics and Technology, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, has issued a stern warning to Google India regarding its Gemini AI's responses about Prime Minister Narendra Modi and historical misrepresentations.

The controversy sparked when Chandrasekhar flagged a tweet showcasing how Gemini AI responds to inquiries about prominent global leaders. Some of the responses were labeled as 'complex,' while others expressed opinions, particularly concerning Prime Minister Modi.

Taking to Twitter, Chandrasekhar condemned Google India's actions, stating, "These are direct violations of Rule 3(1)(b) of Intermediary Rules (IT rules) of the IT act and violations of several provisions of the Criminal code."

Google India is also under scrutiny for its portrayal of historical events. Gemini AI users have shared instances of historically inaccurate depictions, with most images showing a preference for people of color, even in contexts where white individuals should be depicted. In response to the backlash, Google has ceased generating images of people using the Gemini AI model.

Notably, one of the most vocal critics of Google's new Gemini AI models is billionaire Elon Musk, who also happens to be Google's direct competitor with the Grok AI chatbot.

Musk has strongly criticized Gemini AI's responses, labeling them as 'woke' and 'racist.' In a tweet, Musk expressed his satisfaction that the issue has been brought to light, stating, "I’m glad that Google overplayed their hand with their AI image generation, as it made their insane racist, anti-civilizational programming clear to all."
