Meta's CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, on Wednesday announced new features for WhatsApp Communities and its groups. Among the updates, groups associated with a WhatsApp Community now create events, making it easier to come together in person and online.
The members now have the ability to respond to administrative announcements within Community Announcement groups, enabling administrators to get feedback from the group.
Zuckerberg revealed these new features via his WhatsApp Channel, stating, “If you’re in a WhatsApp Community, you can now create events in your groups and reply to admin announcements.”
“Over the next few months more groups will be able to create events,” he added.
These events functionality allows users to seamlessly organize gatherings directly within WhatsApp, whether they're coordinating virtual meetings or birthday celebrations. Event creators can invite others, and participants can indicate their attendance, ensuring clarity within the group.
Initially, events will be introduced to groups linked with a Community, with a broader rollout to all groups slated for the subsequent months, according to the company's announcement.
Furthermore, the addition of reply features to Announcement Groups enables administrators to engage with members while maintaining the group's convenience as a platform for community updates.
Replies will be grouped and condensed to provide users with contextual visibility, while notifications will be muted for all participants.
In the coming months, Meta plans to continue deploying new features to Communities and groups, offering users additional tools to streamline their organizational efforts on WhatsApp.
