PM urges police chiefs to use social media influencers

A press statement stated, "The PM stressed upon the need to reinforce the positive image of the police among citizens, he advised the use of social media to spread advance information on natural calamities and disaster relief"

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, attended the 58th All India conference of directors general and inspectors general of police on Jan 6th and 7th, 2024 at the Rajasthan International Centre, Jaipur. 

 

The Conference contemplated on critical components of national security, including the newly enacted major criminal laws, counter terrorism strategies, left wing extremism, emerging cyber threats, worldwide counter radicalisation initiatives etc.

PM Modi, while addressing the annual director general of police(DGP) conference in Jaipur, said that there was a an urgent need to use social media effectively. He called for the training of police officials in handling cyber related crimes, and the issues encountered by Artificial Intelligence(AI)

 

The 58th police conference, was inaugurated by Union Home minister, Amit Shah and organised by the Intelligence Bureau on Jan 5,2023. It was held in hybrid mode with over 500 Police officers of various ranks attending from different places across the country.

Narendra Modi, held discussions with senior police officers on crucial topics such as human trafficking, border security, cyber threats, radicalization, fraudulent identity, document issuance and emerging threats from AI. 

 

Modi discussed the enactment of three new criminal laws, highlighting how these laws are a paradigm shift in the criminal justice system. He emphasized that these laws were framed around the spirit of “Citizen first, Dignity first and Justice first “and instead of working with “Danda”, police must now work with “data”

 

Prime Minister, further advised the Police chiefs to think imaginatively to convey emotional spirit behind the newly enacted laws to different stratus of the society. He encouraged Police to focus on women safety by ensuring that women could work fearlessly “kabhin bhi aur Kahi bhi”(anywhere anytime)

 

In light of India’s first solar mission, Aditya L1 and the rapid rescue of 21 crew members from the hijacked vessel in the Arabian sea by the Indian Navy, Modi said “such achievements showcase India’s commitment to becoming a major power in the world, Aditya L1 mission is similar to Chandrayaan-3 mission”.

 

The conference was also attended by the National Security Advisor, Ministers of State for Home, Union Home Secretary, DGsP/IGsP of States/UTs and Heads of the Central Police Organisations/Central Armed Police Forces, among others.
