Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Chemicals and Fertilizers virtually unveiled the ‘MedTech Mitra’ on 25 December, 2023.
The collaborative efforts of NITI Ayog, ICMR and CDSO India have launched the platform.
Underscoring the potential of the Indian MedTech Industry, Mandaviya stated “I am confident that India will grow to become a $50 billion industry by 2030”. Pursuing the vision of Viksit Bharat, India is taking a holistic approach to health to transform the health landscape in the country in 2047, he further stated.
“MedTech Mitra is a platform that will help young talents of the county by holding their hands and giving them final shape to their research, knowledge, logic etc. and help them get regulatory approval” said Mansukh Mandaviya.
Speaking at the virtual conference, Mandaviya’s optimism extended to the medical devices industry, proclaiming it as a potential global leader in innovation. He highlighted the sectors’ significance in India’s healthcare landscape, aligning with the ambitious goal of a developed Bharat by 2047.
Shedding light upon the current import-heavy scenario, the Union Minister detailed government initiatives to fortify the domestic medtech sector. Production-linked incentives, investments in medical drug parks, and strategic policies have propelled India forward. Launching a dedicated portal for medtech startups, coupled with the National Medical Device Policy and a substantial research promotion scheme, signals a robust commitment to sectoral growth.
Commending the initiative, Prof. S.P Bhagel emphasized that “MedTech Mitra is a platform for budding entrepreneurs and innovators in India. It is more than an ecosystem, a community. It’s a harbinger of revolutionary change” He further added that “In our country, the use of accurate and cost-effective indigenous technologies to bring about a change in the scenario of healthcare is of utmost importance, MedTech Mitra is one such move that brings together various stakeholders in the field of medical technology to enhance cooperation among various stakeholders and partner with them to promote progress in the health sector”
