The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) recently dismantled the residence of Wakeel Hassan, a miner known for his crucial role in the rescue of 41 workers from a trapped situation in the Silkyara tunnel in Uttarkashi last November. The DDA justified the demolition as a step in the ongoing development plans for the Khajoori Khas village, alongside the removal of several other homes in the vicinity.
In a statement regarding the demolition action, the DDA explained, “The DDA executed a demolition operation on February 28 to clear encroachments on its legally acquired land in the Khajoori Khas village, as part of its development agenda.”
Hassan, visibly upset in a video he shared online, stated that his family’s home was razed without any forewarning. He also disclosed that he had to report to a police station due to the incident. Additionally, Munna Qureshi, another rescue operation member featured in the video, alleged that they were subjected to police violence.
