Delhi CM slams Rahul Gandhi for mocking Chhath Puja.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday launched a sharp attack on Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of indulging in “vote-bank politics” and lacking genuine concern for public welfare.

Her remarks came during a visit to Darbhanga in Bihar, where she spoke regarding Rahul Gandhi’s recent statements and his comments on the Chhath Puja celebrations in Delhi.

Taking a jibe at the Congress leader, Gupta said, “PM Modi has been continuously working in the service of the nation, and many people can’t digest that fact. As for Rahul Gandhi, he appears from time to time like an election-season frog comes out for a bit, says something, and then disappears.”

She further stated that the people of Bihar and the rest of the country “know his true character” and claimed that Gandhi has neither worked for public welfare in the past nor is likely to do so in the future.

Responding to Gandhi’s remarks on Chhath celebrations in Delhi, the Chief Minister accused him of “insulting the sentiments of the Purvanchali community.”

“Those who are pained to see that what never happened in Delhi in the last 27 years under Congress and AAP is now happening under the BJP can remain in pain,” Gupta remarked.

She added, “If you insult Chhath Maiya and humiliate Purvanchal brothers and sisters for vote-bank politics, it will not be tolerated. The people of Purvanchal and Bihar understand this.”

Her comments came a day after Rahul Gandhi, while addressing a rally in Muzaffarpur, accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of engaging in “drama and deception,” referring to the PM’s symbolic “Yamuna bath” during Chhath Puja.

“There was no Yamuna ji there just a pond filled with clean water for Modi ji. Clean water was brought through pipes for his photo-op, while the real India bathes in polluted water,” Gandhi said during his speech.

Turning to Bihar’s development, Gandhi criticised Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s long tenure, saying that the youth of the state had been denied opportunities for decades.

“For 20 years, Nitish Kumar has run the government, but what has he done for education, health, or jobs?” Gandhi asked, calling the JD(U)-BJP alliance a “remote-controlled government” run from Delhi.

Gupta’s counterattack adds another layer to the growing political sparring between the BJP and Congress ahead of the upcoming state elections, with both parties vying to appeal to the Purvanchali and Hindu vote base through their interpretations of the Chhath Puja issue.
