Anant Singh vows faith in Mokama voters after arrest.

JD(U)’s Mokama candidate and former MLA Anant Singh was arrested early Sunday in connection with the murder of Jan Suraaj worker Dularchand Yadav, days ahead of polling in the Bihar Assembly elections.

Singh was detained from his Barh residence by a police team led by Patna SSP. He was later brought to Patna for interrogation in the case related to Yadav’s murder. Yadav was shot dead on Thursday after a violent clash between supporters of Anant Singh and those of the Jan Suraaj party in Mokama.

Soon after his arrest, Singh shared a defiant message on social media, posting a video of himself being escorted by police officers. In the video, he wrote: “Satyamev Jayate!! I have complete faith in the people of Mokama!! Therefore, the people of Mokama will now contest the elections.”

Two others, identified as Manikant Thakur and Ranjeet Ram, were also taken into custody for their alleged involvement in the incident. The three accused were later produced before a magistrate at the Patna Civil Court. A decision on their custody is awaited.

Reacting to the arrest, Singh’s lawyer, Naveen Kumar, alleged that the move was politically motivated and aimed at influencing the upcoming elections.

“Their only motive is to influence the vote, and there’s no other intention. Dularchand’s death was very tragic, we express our condolences, but he (Singh) was unnecessarily targeted. The issue is related to the election, and the opposition is behind this,” Kumar said.

He further stated that Singh’s legal team would challenge the charges in court. “He will be presented before a judge, and we will contest the case legally,” he added.

Anant Singh, known as one of Bihar’s most influential political figures, has a long and controversial history in state politics. His arrest just days before the first phase of polling has sparked widespread political debate, with many suggesting that the development could significantly influence voter sentiment in the Mokama constituency.

Mokama, is set to vote in the first phase i.e Nov 6, of the Bihar elections, has been witnessing a heated contest between the Janata Dal (United) and the Rashtriya Janata Dal, with Singh being one of the key contenders. His arrest has added a new dimension to the already tense political landscape in the region.
