The Union Budget for 2024-25 has unveiled an extensive array of infrastructure projects for Bihar, promising a total outlay of Rs 26,000 crore.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman detailed the ambitious plans, which include major road projects, new airports, and upgraded sports facilities.
The budget allocates Rs 20,000 crore specifically for highway development, including the Patna-Punia Expressway and the Buxar-Bhagalpur Expressway. A new two-lane bridge over the Ganga at Buxar will also be constructed.
The state will receive an additional Rs 11,500 crore for flood mitigation efforts.
Sitharaman highlighted the establishment of new airports and sports infrastructure as key elements of the plan.
She assured that the Bihar government’s request for external aid from multilateral development banks would be expedited.
Further, an industrial node will be developed at Gaya, aimed at transforming ancient cultural sites into modern economic hubs.
This initiative, described as ‘Vikas Bhi Virasat Bhi,’ is part of a broader strategy to promote sustainable development.
The budget also includes a significant investment of Rs 21,400 crore in a 2400 MW power plant at Pirpainti, underlining the government's commitment to enhancing Bihar’s power infrastructure.
Additionally, the development of Nalanda as a tourist destination is part of the plan to boost the state’s cultural and economic profile.
