Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman Tuesday presented her 7th straight Budget on Tuesday that would lay a roadmap for Viksit Bharat (developed India) by 2047, while giving a glimpse of the Modi government’s performance in the past 10 years.
All eyes were on to what extent the Telugu Desam Party’s wish list will be given preference.
After all, it is the second largest party in the National Democratic Alliance, with 16 Lok Sabha MPs.
The country is curiously awaiting the impact of coalition politics on the budget.
And it appears that the Centre gave a boost to its coalition partner’s aspirations.
Sitharaman, in the budget facilitated Rs 15,000 crore to Andhra Pradesh focusing on the state’s need for a capital, pinning it through Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act.
“As a means to make efforts to fulfil the commitments in Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, for recognising the state's need for capital, we will facilitate special financial support through multilateral agencies. In the current FY, Rs 15,000 crore will be arranged with additional amounts in future years," said the Finance Minister.
In his two visits to the national capital in the last 20 days, TDP chief and Andhra Pradesh chief minister, N Chandrababu Naidu, submitted a wish list to the Centre.
The list certainly included funds for the construction of Amaravati capital city— a wish, which has been granted by the Centre.
