Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president JP Nadda has initiated proceedings seeking clarification from party leader Dilip Ghosh regarding his recent remarks targeting West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

The BJP, through a formal notice, conveyed its disapproval of Ghosh's statement, deeming it "indecent and unparliamentary" and in contradiction with the party's principles and ethos. A letter was dispatched to Ghosh, demanding an explanation for his comments, which have stirred controversy.

Ghosh's comments, made during a media interaction in Durgapur, attracted criticism as he opined on Banerjee's frequent references to herself as the "daughter" of various states she visits. Ghosh remarked, "When Didi goes to Goa, she calls herself the daughter of Goa.

When she goes to Tripura, she says that she is the daughter of Tripura. She should first identify her own father." The statement has drawn ire from political adversaries and internal party circles alike.

In response to Ghosh's remarks, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) lambasted the BJP leader, labelling him a "disgrace in the name of political leadership" and accusing him of exhibiting "zero respect for the women of Bengal."

The TMC also referenced Ghosh's previous controversial comments regarding Goddess Durga in 2021, suggesting a pattern of offensive rhetoric.

Citing provisions under the Model Code of Conduct that bar attacks on personal lives and prohibit statements deemed malicious or indecent, the TMC urged the Election Commission to intervene and take action against Ghosh for his alleged violation.

The TMC's condemnation of Ghosh's remarks has been followed by party leaders, with TMC leader Kirti Azad asserting that such derogatory comments diminish the dignity of women.

West Bengal Minister Shashi Panja condemned Ghosh's behaviour, highlighting the need to defeat individuals espousing such demeaning attitudes, particularly in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.

On the other hand, the BJP MP Dilip Ghosh retaliated on Wednesday by targeting Banerjee's nephew Abhishek, questioning his remarks concerning BJP's Suvendu Adhikari and his family.

Ghosh launched a counterattack, expressing incredulity over Abhishek's comments and insinuating gender-based bias in the discourse.

"Is it simply because Suvendu Adhikari is male that he and his father, former MP and Union Minister Sisir Adhikari, are devoid of respect? It appears the gender card is being invoked frequently," Ghosh asserted during his interaction with the media.
