AAP Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Singh raised concerns on Thursday, alleging that the BJP, if re-elected to power at the Centre, would seek to "abolish" elections and reservations, urging citizens to remain vigilant in safeguarding the Constitution and democracy.
Addressing a press conference a day before the commencement of the seven-phase Lok Sabha polls, Singh expressed growing apprehension over perceived threats to constitutional principles.
He cited various instances where individuals have purportedly entertained ideas of altering the Constitution.
While there was no immediate response from the BJP regarding Singh's, he maintained that a return to power for the party would entail the elimination of elections and reservations, alongside the deprivation of voting rights for citizens.
Singh warned of dire consequences if such constitutional changes were to occur, suggesting that it would render individuals powerless to defend their rights against the BJP's dominance.
His message resonated particularly with Dalits, backward classes, and tribals, as well as the broader populace, urging all citizens to remain vigilant against potential encroachments on their democratic rights.
Singh's statements come following his recent release on bail after a six-month stint in jail related to a Delhi excise policy-linked money laundering case under investigation by the Enforcement Directorate.
