Hanuman Beniwal, leader of the Rashtriya Loktantrik Party (RLP) and candidate of the INDIA bloc, took to the streets of a village in the Nagaur Lok Sabha constituency on Wednesday in a unique campaign style, riding atop a cart pulled by a pair of colorfully adorned white bullocks.
Beniwal's candidacy for the upcoming Lok Sabha election in the Rajasthan region was confirmed by the RLD on Monday under the banner of the INDIA bloc. He is set to contest against BJP candidate Jyoti Mishra, both prominent Jat leaders in the area.
“The villagers of Idana have been showering their blessing on me in every election. Even today, they brought this bullock cart for me and asked me to campaign riding on it. In fact, in the last Lok Sabha polls too, I campaigned riding this bullock cart,” Beniwal told the reporters.
He was accompanied on his bullock cart odyssey by Nagaur MLA Harendra Mirdha, who is the uncle of his BJP rival, Jyoti Mirdha. Jyoti Mirdha, who had left the Congress before last year’s Assembly polls, had been fielded by the BJP from the Nagaur Assembly seat but lost to Harendra Mirdha by over 14,000 votes.
Beniwal's RLP initially formed an alliance with the BJP for the 2019 Lok Sabha polls but parted ways over disagreements regarding the three farm laws. Recently, Beniwal forged an alliance with the INDIA bloc and was assigned the Nagaur seat.
