Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has stirred speculation regarding the potential defection of Congress leader and Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) President Bhupen Borah to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Speaking to media persons on Sunday, Sarma confidently asserted, "Ask me, when will Bhupen Borah join the BJP? He will join the BJP anytime. Since I am saying this, I have a reason for it. He will join soon."
Sarma, known for his insider knowledge, dismissed the credibility of Congress leaders' statements, suggesting that they often inform him of their intentions privately.
"Leaders who speak to the press about anything, immediately call me and tell me everything. That I said all these... do not mind me," Sarma remarked, hinting at behind-the-scenes developments.
Adding to the intrigue, Sarma referenced the background of Gaurav Gogoi, another Congress leader, noting his royal lineage. This subtle remark added depth to the ongoing political speculation.
Commenting on the recent events in the national capital, particularly the controversy surrounding Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's arrests, Sarma pressed on the importance of compliance with enforcement agencies. He criticized Kejriwal's legal counsel, labelling them as "ill advocates" for advising against responding to the summons.
The Assam CM found a moment of relaxation as he indulged in a meal at the residence of Asom Gana Parishad leader Phani Bhusan Choudhury in Bongaigaon.
Enjoying the local hospitality, Sarma expressed his delight, stating, "I ate all the fish served to me."
