The Indigenous Tribal Leaders Forum (ITLF) Presidential Council in Manipur, following discussions with its constituent member tribes, has unanimously decided to urge the Kuki-Zo community to refrain from contesting in the upcoming Lok Sabha Election 2024.
This resolution comes amidst the community's current challenges, as highlighted by the council.
In a press release, the ITLF Presidential Council emphasised the importance of civic participation and encouraged all members of the Kuki-Zo community to exercise their democratic right to vote in the election.
However, they advised against fielding candidates for the Outer Manipur Member of Parliament seat.
The statement conveyed, "ITLF Presidential Council, in consultation with its constituent member tribes, has agreed that no member from the Kuki-Zo community should file a nomination for the upcoming Lok Sabha Election, considering the plight that we are facing. As Indian citizens, we advise our community members to exercise their right to the franchise by voting in the upcoming Lok Sabha Election 2024 but abstain from contesting for the Outer Manipur Member of Parliament seat."
Meanwhile, Kachui Timothy Zimik of the Naga People's Front has officially submitted his nomination for the Outer Lok Sabha seat in Manipur, signifying a notable development in the electoral process.
Previously, the Naga People’s Front's (NPF) Central Working Committee (WC) had endorsed Kachui Timothy Zimik as the official candidate for the II-Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency in the Lok Sabha Elections 2024.
Zimik brings a wealth of experience, having served as a retired IRS officer and as the Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax in the Ministry of Finance.
