A 14-year-old Class 9 student allegedly stabbed his female classmate in the face and chest outside a classroom at an English-medium school in Balewadi, Pune, on Friday.
The incident is suspected to have followed a disagreement over Instagram videos recorded during a school trip to Panchgani and Mahabaleshwar on October 17 and 18.
The injured girl was taken to a hospital in Baner. Police said she suffered serious injuries to her face and chest, but her condition was stable. Her statement has been recorded as part of the investigation.
The accused, who is also 14 years old, has been apprehended and sent to an observation home as a minor in conflict with the law. Police have recovered the knife allegedly used in the attack.
Senior Police Inspector Arvind Pawar confirmed the incident and said the investigation was continuing.
Dispute over videos recorded during school trip
Investigators believe the confrontation may have originated during the school excursion, when a boy allegedly filmed several female students dancing and later uploaded the videos to Instagram.
Some students reportedly objected to the posts and pressured him to delete them, leading to a dispute. Police suspect that the accused became angry over the developments and attacked the girl at around 2.15 pm outside a classroom.
School authorities reached the spot soon after the alleged assault and informed the girl's family and the police. She was then shifted to hospital for treatment.
The police are examining the sequence of events, including the disagreement over the social media posts and the circumstances that led to the alleged stabbing. The exact motive and all details surrounding the incident have not yet been established.
