French aerospace company Dassault's CEO, Éric Trappier, wants to ensure that the company signs the Rafale fighter jet MRFA (Multi-Role Fighter Aircraft) contract with India by 2026.
“We want to make sure that the 114 Rafale MRFA contract is signed this year,” he said.
Last month, India’s Defence Ministry approved the long-pending proposal to procure 114 Rafale fighter jets from France under a government-to-government framework. Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, granted the approval to what is being called one of the largest defence procurement clearances.
To put a formal mark on the deal, the Indian defence ministry is in negotiations with French aerospace major Dassault Aviation, finalising the pricing, delivery timelines and the weapons package.
The recent approval for 114 Rafale jets marks a historic 'green signal' for India's air defence power, coming nearly 13 years after the collapse of the original Medium Multi-Role Combat Aircraft (MMRCA) tender.
