Congress leader Rahul Gandhi delivered a sharp critique of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) as voting for the Delhi Assembly elections got underway on Wednesday. Urging citizens to vote for Congress, Gandhi highlighted governance failures under the current administration.

Taking to social media platform X, Gandhi wrote, "While voting, remember who is responsible for polluted air, dirty water, broken roads. Who committed the biggest scam in Delhi while talking about doing clean politics?"

He appealed to Delhiites to exercise their right to vote, asserting that a vote for Congress would protect their rights and strengthen democratic principles.

"My dear brothers and sisters of Delhi. I appeal to all of you to go and vote today. Every vote you give to Congress will protect your rights, strengthen the Constitution and put Delhi back on the path of progress," he posted.

Polling for all 70 assembly seats began at 7 a.m., with voting scheduled to continue until 6 p.m. Despite tight security arrangements, voter turnout remained sluggish initially, with the Election Commission reporting only an 8.10 per cent turnout as of 9 a.m.

The North East district recorded the highest turnout of 10.70 per cent, followed by South West at 9.34 per cent. In contrast, the New Delhi district witnessed a slow start with a turnout of just 6.51 per cent.

Among other districts, the Central district recorded a turnout of 6.67 per cent, East 8.21 per cent, North 7.12 per cent, North West 7.66 per cent, Shahdara 8.92 per cent, South 8.43 per cent, South East 8.36 per cent, and West 6.76 per cent.

Several constituencies, including New Delhi, Jangpura, Kalkaji, Okhla, Mustafabad, and Greater Kailash, are expected to witness fierce electoral battles.

The AAP, which secured over 60 seats in the previous assembly, is seeking a third consecutive term based on its governance record.

The New Delhi constituency features a high-profile contest between AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal, BJP’s Parvesh Verma, and Congress’s Sandeep Dikshit.

Meanwhile, Jangpura sees a triangular contest between AAP's Manish Sisodia, Congress's Farhad Suri, and BJP's Tarvinder Singh Marwah.

With 699 candidates vying for 70 assembly seats, voters have a crucial role in shaping Delhi’s future.
