The 41st Steering Committee Meeting of the International Partnership for Hydrogen and Fuel Cells in the Economy (IPHE) continued its deliberations at Sushma Swaraj Bhawan, New Delhi, marking significant progress in advancing global efforts towards a sustainable hydrogen economy.
Hosted by India from March 18 to 22, 2024, the meeting witnessed active participation from IPHE delegates representing a diverse array of countries including Austria, Chile, France, the European Commission, Japan, Germany, the Netherlands, UAE, UK, US, Singapore, and South Korea. The session focused on exchanging updates on research and development (R&D), policy advancements, and governmental initiatives concerning hydrogen technologies and infrastructure.
Delegates provided comprehensive insights into their respective countries' national strategies for clean hydrogen, emphasizing ongoing R&D initiatives in hydrogen production, storage, and transportation. Discussions also centered on fostering demand, developing infrastructure, and addressing workforce training to facilitate the scaling of hydrogen technologies.
A key focal point of the meeting was exploring innovative business models for hydrogen transportation, production, and storage, alongside exploring opportunities for international collaboration in financing, policy-making, and regulatory frameworks to bolster the emergence of a robust hydrogen economy.
Deliberations extended to regulatory frameworks, emission savings methodologies, the establishment of dedicated hydrogen infrastructure and markets, as well as the creation of hydrogen banks and import-export corridors. Emphasis was also placed on enhancing public awareness, streamlining business processes, and adopting high-efficiency, cost-effective approaches.
The committee reviewed the outcomes of the 40th Steering Committee Meeting and deliberated on expanding IPHE membership to ensure broader global participation, particularly from countries in the Global South.
Looking ahead, it was unanimously agreed that the European Commission would host the 42nd Steering Committee Meeting during the European Hydrogen Week, slated for November this year.
