Adani Group and Brazilian aerospace major Embraer will announce next week a plan to establish a final assembly line (FAL) for civilian aircraft in India, signalling a significant push in the country’s domestic aviation manufacturing ambitions.

The announcement will be formalised on January 27 through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by executives of Adani Defence and Aerospace and Embraer in the presence of Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu in New Delhi.

The FAL will focus on assembling Embraer jets with seating capacities of up to 150 passengers. Following operationalisation, Adani Group is expected to expand into the manufacture of aircraft components.

In a joint media invitation, the two companies described the initiative as “a historic development in India’s commercial aviation ‘Make in India’ journey”.

India ranks among the fastest growing civil aviation markets globally, with airlines expanding fleets and new airports being commissioned to meet rising air traffic demand. Embraer has operated in India since 2005, with nearly 50 aircraft serving the Indian Air Force, government agencies, business jet operators, and commercial airline Star Air.

Embraer opened a new office in New Delhi in October 2025 to capitalise on the Indian market, which it projects will require at least 500 aircraft in the 80–146 seat category over the next two decades. The partnership with Adani will enhance Embraer’s competitiveness in the country’s civil aviation sector.

In 2024, Embraer Defence & Security and Mahindra Defence Systems signed an MoU to explore the Indian Air Force’s Medium Transport Aircraft (MTA) programme with the C-390 Millennium. The company is also targeting growth in defence, business aviation, services and support, and urban air mobility segments in India.

The government has been promoting domestic aerospace manufacturing and maintenance activities. In November 2025, French aerospace firm Safran announced that its maintenance, repair, and overhaul facility for LEAP engines would become operational in 2026.

The collaboration between Adani Group and Embraer is expected to accelerate India’s ambitions in commercial aircraft production and strengthen the domestic aerospace ecosystem.
