Gautam Adani, Chairman of the Adani Group, has announced an agreement with Bhutan to develop a 570 MW green hydroelectric plant and collaborate on transformative infrastructure projects.
Adani met with Bhutan's King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and Prime Minister Dasho Tshering Tobgay in Thimphu, where they signed a memorandum of understanding with Druk Green Power Corporation Limited for the hydro plant in Chukha province.
"Absolutely fascinating meeting with Dasho Tshering Tobgay, Hon. Prime Minister of Bhutan," Adani posted on X. "Admirable to see @PMBhutan advancing the vision of His Majesty The King and pursuing broad ranging infrastructure initiatives across the kingdom."
The Adani Group aims to expand its collaboration on hydroelectric and other infrastructure projects in Bhutan. Adani expressed honor in meeting the King and admiration for his vision, particularly for the ambitious eco-friendly masterplan of Gelephu Mindfulness City, which includes large computing centers and data facilities.
"Excited to collaborate on these transformative initiatives, as well as on green energy management for a carbon-negative nation," Adani said. Last November, he expressed eagerness to explore opportunities for the Adani Group to contribute to green infrastructure development in Bhutan, described as "one of our happy and warm neighbors."
