A global rice conference that begins in the national capital on October 30 will be marked by technological innovation in farming, farmer felicitation, and expectations of export agreements worth almost ₹25,000 crore.

Rice exporters’ apex body, Indian Rice Exporters Federation (IREF), is organising the two-day Bharat International Rice Conference (BIRC) 2025 on October 30-31 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, to highlight India’s growing leadership in the global rice sector and boost the country’s rice exports.

IREF said in a statement on Wednesday that the event will also feature a live launch of India’s first Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based rice sorting system, which can also analyse the colour, size, shape, and structure of rice grains.

“Powered by Artificial Intelligence and Big Data, the new system [of rice sorting] can simultaneously analyse the colour, size, shape, and structure of rice grains, offering unprecedented precision and efficiency while reducing costs, power consumption, and manpower. This marks a major leap forward for India’s agri-processing sector,” said Prem Garg, National President of the IREF.

Bringing together delegates from over 80 nations, including top global rice importers, exporters, scientists, and policymakers, the event has been lent non-financial support by the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA).

Through this event, the association wants to expand India’s share in global trade by identifying 26 countries that can offer export potential of ₹1.8 lakh crore.

The IREF said it expects export agreements worth about ₹25,000 crore to be signed during the conference.

In 2024-25, India exported 20.1 million tonnes of rice valued at USD 12.95 billion, reaching more than 172 countries.

Another special highlight of BIRC 2025 will be the felicitation of 17 farmers from several states by international buyers as a mark of recognition for their contributions to quality, innovation, and sustainability in rice cultivation.

“BIRC is an affirmation of global acceptance of Indian farmers and their growing recognition on the international stage,” said Garg.
With participation from all states and Union Territories, each showcasing their unique rice varieties and heritage grains, the conference is set to reflect India’s agricultural and cultural diversity.

Also a part of the event will be special pavilions showcasing women entrepreneurs, startups, and MSMEs, that highlight innovation across the agri-value chain – from seed development and post-harvest technologies to packaging, branding, digital trade, and blockchain-based traceability.
