The adjusted mobile service tariffs for Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea will lead to a 10-24 per cent increase starting in the first week of July.
Starting from July 3, Bharti Airtel is implementing a 10-21 per cent increase in both prepaid and postpaid mobile tariffs, following Reliance Jio's announcement of rate increases.
On the same day, Vodafone Idea (Vi), a struggling telecom operator, also revealed plans to raise mobile tariffs by 11-24 per cent starting from July 4.
However, Vi has decided not to make changes to several plans, including the Rs 1,799 and Rs 3,099 plans with 365 days validity, as well as certain data add-on packs.
Bharti Airtel has emphasised the need for mobile Average Revenue Per User (ARPU) to exceed Rs 300 in order for telecom companies in India to establish a financially viable business model.
"We have ensured that there is a very modest price increase (less than 70 paise per day) on entry-level plans in order to eliminate any burden on budget-challenged consumers," Airtel said, announcing revision in its mobile tariffs.
The mobile operators raised their tariffs right after the 10th spectrum auction, which had a weak industry response and ended in just two days.
On Thursday, Jio, India's biggest telecom operator, revealed a 12-27 per cent increase in mobile tariffs.
