Ajay Seth, a 1987 batch IAS officer, will hold the additional charge until a regular incumbent is appointed.

The Centre on Tuesday (10 December) appointed Economic Affairs Secretary Ajay Seth to take on the additional charge of the Revenue Department, effective immediately.

This follows the government's appointment of serving Revenue Secretary Sanjay Malhotra as the Governor of the Reserve Bank of India on Monday. Malhotra will assume office at the RBI for a three-year term starting 11 December.

The government order stated: "The Competent Authority has approved the assignment of additional charge of the post of Secretary, Department of Revenue, to Ajay Seth, Secretary, Department of Economic Affairs, with immediate effect until the appointment of a regular incumbent or until further orders, whichever is earlier."

Seth, a 1987 batch IAS officer from the Karnataka cadre, has served as Secretary in the Department of Economic Affairs since April 2021. He holds a B.Tech in mechanical engineering and an MBA.

With over three decades of experience in public finance and social sector administration, Seth has dealt with matters related to budgets, tax policy, foreign investments, bilateral and multilateral financial cooperation, development financing, and public-private partnerships.
