The Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR) has recommended the imposition of an anti-dumping duty on imports of glass fibres from China, Bahrain, and Thailand for a period of five years.
The body said in its final report that glass fibres have been exported to India at a price below the normal value, resulting in dumping, and therefore the imposition of duty is aimed at safeguarding domestic players across various sectors, including the electrical industry, from cheap inbound shipments.
The recommended duty ranges between USD 194 per tonne and USD 394 per tonne.
"The authority recommends imposition of anti-dumping duty on the imports of the product from China, Bahrain and Thailand for a period of five years," the DGTR said in a notification.
The DGTR is an investigation arm of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and conducts regular anti-dumping probes to determine whether domestic industries have been hurt because of a surge in cheap imports.

It then recommends imposing anti-dumping duty to ensure fair trading practices and to create a level-playing field for domestic producers vis-a-vis foreign producers and exporters. The finance ministry takes the final call for imposing the same.
These duties can be imposed by countries under the multilateral regime of the Geneva-based World Trade Organisation (WTO) that deals with global trade norms. All the countries who impose anti-dumping duties are also members of multilateral organisations like the WTO.
India has already imposed anti-dumping duty on several products to tackle cheap imports from various countries, including China.
In a separate notification, the DGTR said it has initiated a probe to review the need to continue the imposition of anti-dumping duty on chemicals imported from the European Union, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, Taiwan, and the US to be used in the adhesive industry.
Andhra Petrochemicals Ltd filed an application before the DGTR for the initiation of the sunset review investigation of anti-dumping duty on imports of "2-Ethyl Hexanol" exported from the above mentioned countries.
