Automobile exports from India rise 14 pc in Apr-Sep period

India's automobile exports rose 14% in the first half of the fiscal year, driven by increased shipments of passenger vehicles and two-wheelers, with total exports reaching 2,528,248 units, despite a decline of 5.5% .

Maruti Suzuki led with a 12% increase in exports to 1,47,063 units, while Hyundai Motor India saw a 1% decline, exporting 84,900 units in the April-September period.


Automobile exports from India in the first six months of the current financial year rose by 14 per cent year-on-year, driven by growth in shipments of passenger vehicles and two-wheelers.

 

According to data from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (Siam), total exports during the April-September period reached 25,28,248 units, up 14 per cent from 22,11,457 units in the same period last year.

 

Key markets like Latin America and Africa, which had slowed down for various reasons, have bounced back. This has been the main reason for exports coming back.

 

Several African nations and other regions had faced challenges due to currency devaluation, which affected vehicle shipments as these countries prioritised the import of essential goods.

 

Automobile exports had declined by 5.5 per cent in FY24 due to monetary crises in multiple overseas markets. 

Total exports stood at 45,00,492 units in the previous financial year, compared with 47,61,299 units in FY23.

 

Passenger vehicle exports rose 12 per cent year-on-year to 3,76,679 units in the first half of this financial year, compared to 3,36,754 units in the same period of FY24.

 

Maruti Suzuki, the country’s largest carmaker, led the segment with 1,47,063 units shipped, reflecting a 12 per cent increase from 1,31,546 units in the corresponding period last year.

 

Hyundai Motor India exported 84,900 units, a slight drop of 1 per cent compared to 86,105 units in the April-September period of the previous financial year.

 

Two-wheeler exports saw a 16 per cent increase year-on-year, rising to 19,59,145 units in the April-September period this financial year, compared with 16,85,907 units in the same period last year.

 

 Scooter shipments surged by 19 per cent to 3,14,533 units, while motorcycle exports climbed 16 per cent to 16,41,804 units during the review period.

 

Commercial vehicle exports increased by 12 per cent year-on-year to 35,731 units in the first six months of the financial year.

 

Three-wheeler shipments fell by 1 per cent to 1,53,199 units during the period, down from 1,55,154 units in the April-September period of FY24.
