BPCL joins Chhattisgarh for Clean Energy Initiative: MoU signed for CBG Production ; Invests Rs 100 Cr in CBG Plant

An agreement was reached on Wednesday between Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), the Chhattisgarh Biofuel Development Authority, and the municipal corporations of Raipur and Bhilai to initiate the production of Compressed Bio Gas (CBG) in Chhattisgarh, officials reported.

Under the memorandum of understanding (MoU), BPCL, a central Public Sector Undertaking (PSU), will establish CBG plants in Raipur and Bhilai, investing approximately Rs 100 crore in each plant. These plants will have a capacity of 100-150 tonnes per day.

The MoU signing ceremony took place at the official residence of Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, with Deputy CM Arun Sao also in attendance, officials said.

Chief Minister Sai emphasized that the establishment of CBG plants signifies a crucial step towards achieving a clean city, utilizing clean energy, and reducing carbon emissions.

The biofuel production in these plants will utilize around 200-250 metric tonnes of municipal solid waste daily, contributing significantly to waste management efforts. Additionally, the investment by BPCL is expected to generate approximately 60,000 man-days of employment annually, directly and indirectly.

Upon reaching full production capacity and sale, the state stands to benefit from GST revenue of approximately Rs 45 lakh per year, Chief Minister Sai noted.

Moreover, these plants will produce organic fertilizer as a by-product, supporting organic farming practices in the state.

The MoU signatories included Sumit Sarkar, Chief Executive Officer of Chhattisgarh Biofuel Development Authority; Anurag Saravagi, Chief General Manager of BPCL, Mumbai; Avinash Mishra, Commissioner of Raipur Municipal Corporation; and Devesh Kumar Dhruv, Commissioner of Bhilai Municipal Corporation, officials confirmed.
