The Income Tax department said on Thursday it has extended the deadline for submission of audit reports for the fiscal year of 2024-25 by one month, till October 31.
From technical glitches on the e-filing portal to disruptions caused due to floods, the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) said it had been receiving representations from various professional associations, including chartered accountant bodies, highlighting certain difficulties being faced by taxpayers and practitioners in timely completion of the audit report.
Flooding, especially, has been massive across the country during the monsoons, clubbed with other natural calamities that impeded usual business and professional activity. This was also brought up before high courts.
"However, keeping in view the representation of the tax practitioners and their submissions before the Hon'ble Courts, the 'specified date' for furnishing of the report of audit under any provision of the Income-Tax Act, 1961, for the previous year 2024-25 (Assessment Year 2025-26)… is extended from 30th September, 2025 to 31st October, 2025," the CBDT said.

However, the CBDT also clarified that said the income tax return e-filing portal is working smoothly and without any technical glitches.
The system is stable and fully functional, enabling submission of various statutory forms and reports, the statement added.
The department said that more than 7.57 crore ITRs had been filed till September 23, 2025. On September 24 alone, 60,000 of them were uploaded, bringing the total to about 4.02 lakh tax audit reports.
On September 15, the department had extended the deadline for filing ITR by individuals and those who do not have to get their accounts audited by one day as technical glitches and delays in filing returns cropped up. Till September 16, over 7.54 crore ITRs had been filed, of which, 1.28 crore taxpayers paid self-assessment tax till September 16.
