The Centre on Wednesday announced the integration of the UMANG app with the country’s digital wallet, DigiLocker, enabling users to access multiple government services on a single platform.
According to the National e-Governance Division (NeGD), the collaboration aims to provide citizens with seamless access to a wide range of public services, enhancing convenience.
The UMANG app is currently available to all Android users, with plans for an iOS expansion in the near future.
"With just a few simple steps, these services can now also be accessed via the DigiLocker app," the IT Ministry said in a statement.
To access the services, users are advised to update their DigiLocker app, open it on an Android device, click on the UMANG icon within the DigiLocker interface, install the UMANG app when prompted, and access a variety of government services through the DigiLocker platform.
DigiLocker, known for simplifying access to personal and official documents, has further expanded its range of services through the integration with UMANG, the ministry added.
By connecting with e-governance platforms such as UMANG, DigiLocker continues to enhance accessibility and improve ease of living for citizens.
DigiLocker is a secure cloud-based platform that allows for the storage, sharing, and verification of documents and certificates. It provides authentic digital documents that are legally equivalent to originals, enabling faster service delivery across areas such as government benefits, employment, financial inclusion, education, and healthcare.
As per Rule 9A of the Information Technology (Preservation and Retention of Information by Intermediaries Providing Digital Locker Facilities) Rules, 2016, documents issued through the DigiLocker system are considered to be on par with original physical documents.
