Deregulation will be a key theme of the upcoming Economic Survey 2024-25, aimed at boosting job creation and increasing female workforce participation, Chief Economic Advisor V Anantha Nageswaran said on Thursday.
"We touched upon this quite a bit in the Economic Survey in July, and it will remain a major theme in the forthcoming one. Deregulation, or 'letting go', will be a central focus," Nageswaran stated.
To address the gender divide and promote job creation, he suggested that policy could do more in terms of deregulation.
For instance, the total number of occupations restricted for women across various states amounts to 118. These roles are considered too risky for women to participate in, Nageswaran explained.
"If we want to increase female workforce participation, the focus must be on deregulation at the state and local governance levels," he added, speaking at the Assocham Bharat@100 summit.
The Economic Survey is scheduled to be presented in Parliament on January 31.
