The European Union (EU) has approved another 102 marine product units from India to export seafood to the bloc, taking the total to 604.
"The move would help boost India's seafood exports to the EU. It is expected to help increase our seafood exports by about 20 per cent," an Indian government official said, adding that the listing of these units by the EU was a long-pending demand of India.
The EU is India’s second-largest seafood export destination, with India’s seafood exports to the EU standing at USD 1.1 billion in 2023-24. The US, EU, China, Japan, Vietnam and Thailand are major seafood export destinations of India.

The development is especially significant for India, whose shrimp exports are expected to be hit hard by the steep 50 per cent tariffs imposed by the US on its products.
"The listing is a key development to boost our exports. This also reflects that our units are maintaining high standards," the official said.
In 2024-25, India's shrimp exports totalled USD 4.88 billion, accounting for 66 per cent of the total seafood exports.
