Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, has announced that the Ministry has sanctioned ₹3,589.4 crore to upgrade the Bhopal-Kanpur Economic Corridor to a four-lane highway in Madhya Pradesh.
In a post on X, Gadkari wrote, "In Madhya Pradesh, we have approved ₹3,589.4 crore for the Bhopal to Vidisha, Vidisha to Gyaraspur, Satai Ghat to Chauka, and Chauka to Kaimha packages, facilitating the upgrade of the Bhopal-Kanpur Economic Corridor to a four-lane highway."
He added, “These projects will positively impact the overall development of the region by improving connectivity, reducing travel time, enhancing road safety, and accelerating economic growth.”
Following this announcement, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav expressed his gratitude towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Nitin Gadkari for their efforts in advancing the state's development.
He posted on X, “Under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Madhya Pradesh government is writing a new chapter of development by expanding road connectivity. The four-lane upgrade of the Bhopal-Kanpur Economic Corridor will not only boost the region's economic progress but also improve traffic flow and reduce road accidents."
“I extend my gratitude to the Prime Minister and the Union Minister on behalf of the people of the state,” Yadav added.
According to the state's Department of Public Relations (DPR), the government had earlier announced the Bundelkhand Vikas Path as part of its 'Sankalp Patra', a major four-lane road project linking Bhopal with the districts of Sagar and Chhatarpur in the Bundelkhand region.
The initiative will enhance connectivity from Bhopal to Sagar via Chhatarpur, extending to the Uttar Pradesh border, boosting regional trade and improving traffic flow.
Although the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) had commenced the expansion, certain sections were still awaiting final approval.
In a recent meeting in New Delhi, the green light was given for upgrading the Bhopal to Sagar and Chhatarpur to Uttar Pradesh border stretches to a four-lane highway.
Gadkari has also approved Rs 592 crores for upgrading the 46 km long road from Mandla to Nainpur.
