Gautam Solar said on Monday that it would invest Rs 4,000 crore in a 5-GW solar cell manufacturing plant in Madhya Pradesh. The project will be developed on 54 acres of land in Gwalior, where the company will focus on producing advanced TOPCon solar cells with a total planned capacity of 5 GW, a company statement said.
Implementation of the project has commenced with Phase 1, which will include setting up a solar cell manufacturing capacity of 2 GW. The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2026. After the successful completion of Phase 1, Gautam Solar plans to launch an IPO to raise funds for Phase 2, which will have an additional 3 GW capacity.
The company envisions expanding into solar wafer manufacturing to create a fully integrated solar value chain in India. The project is expected to boost the domestic solar manufacturing ecosystem and aid in meeting the clean energy goals of the country.
Gautam Mohanka, Director, Gautam Solar, said, "With one of the largest solar cell manufacturing units in India using the latest and highly advanced TOPCon technology, we envision to deepen the domestic solar manufacturing context while reducing reliance on imports for the ecosystem. Our vision is integrating solar value chains in India from wafers to modules. We are supporting the nation’s transition to clean energy and Atmanirbhar Bharat."
Gautam Solar has multiple manufacturing units across the country. It is targeting a solar module manufacturing capacity of 5 GWp by FY2025-26, up from its current capacity of 3.2 GWp.
ACME places 2-GWh battery energy storage system order
ACME Solar Holdings has placed an order of 2 GWh of Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) with leading global energy system supplier Chuzhou Lishen New Energy Technology Co. Ltd through POSCO International Corporation and China FAW Group Import and Export Co. Ltd.
The order will be delivered in phases over the next six to 10 months and the systems would be deployed across ACME Solar’s FDRE (firm & dispatchable renewable energy) and standalone BESS projects, scheduled for commissioning over the next 12 to 18 months.
"With this latest order, ACME Solar's cumulative BESS procurement surpasses 5 GWh, following a previous order of 3.1 GWh BESS placed in July 2025. This strategic purchase will ensure timely availability of the BESS system, playing a key role in de-risking project commissioning timelines and accelerating overall project delivery," ACME Solar CEO Nikhil Dhingra said.
While ACME Solar Holdings is a leading integrated renewable energy player, Lishen is China’s first lithium-ion battery R&D firm and manufacturer with 27 years of experience.
