The Ministry of Textiles has reopened the portal that invites fresh applications from interested companies under the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme which was first approved by the Centre in September, 2021.

The scheme, worth ₹10,683 crore, is an initiative by the government to boost domestic manufacturing and help increase exports in order to attract foreign investment across various sectors.

It provides financial incentives to companies that increase their production and sales of designated goods with an aim to make Indian industries more competitive globally and reduce import dependency.

The application portal opened by the government will remain open till August 31.

“In view of the requests from the industry stake-holders, Ministry of Textiles has decided to reopen the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme portal for inviting fresh applications from interested companies under the PLI Scheme for Textiles for MMF Apparel, MMF Fabrics and products of Technical Textiles. The portal will remain open up to 31 August 2025,” a statement by the Ministry of Textiles said.

The statement also stated that all terms and conditions, as notified earlier through the respective scheme guidelines, will continue to apply for the fresh applications.

Urging companies to take advantage of this opportunity, the ministry asked them to make sure that their applications are submitted within the specified period.

Earlier too, the portal was re-opened for a specified period to accept applications under the scheme.

US President Donald Trump’s August 6 announcement of imposing 50 per cent tariffs on Indian imports threatens to dent the Indian textile industry the hardest, since it is heavily dependent on exports. India’s textile industry body chief had recently requested the government to provide fiscal support to the exporters, failing which, she said the industry may suffer losses.
