The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday approved raising the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for the common variety of paddy by 3 per cent to ₹2,369 per quintal for the 2025-26 kharif marketing season (July-June). The Grade A variety, meanwhile, has been set at ₹2,389 per quintal.
The MSP was increased for various other kharif crops as well, including pulses and seeds. Among pulses, support price for tur has been raised by ₹450 to ₹8,000 per quintal, while that of urad MSP by ₹400 to ₹7,800 per quintal and moong MSP by ₹86 to ₹8768 per quintal.
Last year, the MSP for paddy (common) was ₹2,300, while that of Grade A variety was ₹2,320.
Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw told reporters that government has increased the MSP of Kharif crops for 2025-26 to ensure remunerative prices to the growers for their produce.
The highest absolute increase in MSP was given to nigerseed, followed by ragi (highest 14 per cent in percentage terms), cotton, and sesamum.
The increase in kharif crops support price for 2025-26 is in line with the Union Budget 2018-19 announcement of fixing the MSP at a level of at least 1.5 times the All-India weighted average cost of production.
