The logistics industry has significant growth potential, with more than 300 initiatives and Rs 80 lakh crore earmarked for development, Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Jayant Chaudhary said on Saturday.
Speaking at the launch of the 'Swiggy Skills' initiative in New Delhi, Chaudhary highlighted the government's focus on creating an enabling ecosystem where skilling and education support the sector’s growth.
He emphasised the role of public-private partnerships in accelerating development and creating new job opportunities.
“There are huge opportunities in this space, and we wish to see more corporates engaging with us,” Chaudhary said.
Online food delivery platform Swiggy has partnered with the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) to provide skilling and employment opportunities within its food delivery and quick commerce network.
Atul Kumar Tiwari, Secretary of MSDE, said the collaboration would enhance the economic contribution of the retail and supply chain logistics sector while fostering opportunities for skilling, upskilling, and reskilling the workforce.
Rohit Kapoor, CEO of Swiggy Food Marketplace, noted that India’s food and retail sectors, which contribute about 13 per cent of the GDP, are expanding rapidly, driving the need for a skilled workforce.
“With the acceleration of digitisation, there is an urgent demand for skilled employees across the value chain,” Kapoor said.
The 'Swiggy Skills' programme will be integrated with MSDE’s Skill India Digital Hub, allowing approximately 2.4 lakh delivery partners and two lakh restaurant staff to access skill development courses, certifications, and training.
Kapoor added that Swiggy Instamart operations would create 3,000 new jobs across India and provide training and internships for 200 MSDE-trained individuals in senior roles within the company’s quick commerce operations.
