Multinational conglomerate Honeywell, announced a major advancement in the aviaiton sustainability, introducing hydrocracking technology capable of producing sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) from biomass.

According to a press statement released by the company, Honeywell's hydrocracking technology boasts several significant advantages over existing methods.

It yields 3-5% more SAF, achieves up to a 20% cost reduction, and minimizes by-product waste streams compared to other commonly used hydroprocessing technologies.

The Fischer-Tropsch (FT) UnicrackingTM technology, a key component of Honeywell's solution, utilizes liquids and waxes derived from processed biomass, including agricultural residues, wood waste, and food scraps.

This process results in SAF that meets stringent aviation industry standards while significantly reducing environmental impact.

Last October, Honeywell announced a strategic realignment of its business segments to focus on three megatrends: automation, the future of aviation, and energy transition.

Ken West, President and CEO of Honeywell Energy and Sustainability Solutions, emphasized the growing demand for SAF and the need for diversified feedstock sources. He noted that Honeywell's innovative technology expands feedstock options, enhancing the industry's capacity to produce SAF sustainably.

DG Fuels, a leading biofuels manufacturer, recently selected Honeywell's FT Unicracking technology for its biofuels facility in Louisiana, set to become the world's largest SAF production facility upon completion in 2028.

With the capacity to produce 13,000 barrels of SAF daily, the facility will play a significant role in reducing global aviation carbon emissions.

A pioneer in SAF production, it offers a comprehensive portfolio of renewable fuel solutions, including EcofiningTM and Ethanol to Jet technology.

The company has more than 50 licensed sites globally and a projected combined capacity exceeding 500,000 barrels of SAF per day.
