The Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board Limited (HPSEBL) earned ₹315 crore in the financial year 2024-25, an official statement said, adding that the profits came after incurring losses for years.
Until March 31, 2024, HPSEBL had accumulated losses amounting to ₹3,742 crore.
While rains this year have been so abundant that not only have they filled reservoirs to full capacity, but also wreaked havoc in the state, a government spokesperson attributed the electricity department’s profit to the state government’s vision of a ‘Nai soch, naya Himachal’.

"After facing losses for many years, this is the highest profit ever recorded by the board. This milestone is not just a number, but a reflection of the commitment of the present state government to its vision of a 'Nai Soch, Naya Himachal'," said the official in a statement.
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said the success was the result of reforms, honest governance and a welfare-oriented approach.
As per the statement, for the year 2024-25, an amount of ₹368.89 crore was approved for gratuity, medical reimbursement, revised pension arrears and leave encashment.
This marked a significant increase from a meagre ₹87.56 crore approved in the previous year. Out of this, ₹187.86 crore has already been disbursed till July 31, 2025.
Inviting the cooperation of all stakeholders, Sukhu said he was confident the board would become fully self-reliant soon, benefiting not only the employees and officers, but also the people of the state.
