A new application upgrade in the Information Technology (IT) systems of India Post offices in the country will allow them to accept digital payments at counters from August onwards, official sources said.
Prior to the new IT rollout, post offices did not accept digital payments since their accounts were not synced with UPI (unique payment interface) system.
“The Department of Posts is implementing its IT infrastructure which will have new applications that are enabled to perform transactions with Dynamic QR Code. Rollout will be completed at all post offices by August 2025,” an official said.

Pilot rollout of the new system under IT 2.0 has been initiated in the Karnataka circle, with QR-based booking of mail products successfully carried out at the Mysore head office (HO), Bagalkot HO and its subordinate offices.
It came to the fore that the Department of Post had earlier introduced static QR code at the point-of-sale counters at post offices to enable digital transactions, but recurring technical difficulties and customer complaints forced this approach to be abandoned.
