India’s coal production increased by 6.48% to 384.08 million tonnes (MT) in the first five months of the current fiscal year, compared to 360.71 MT during the same period in FY24.
According to the coal ministry, provisional figures show that Coal India Limited (CIL), which supplies over 80% of the country’s coal, produced 290.39 MT from April to August FY25, marking a 3.17% year-on-year increase.
Coal output from captive and other entities also rose to 68.99 MT during the same period, up from 52.84 MT a year earlier.
Cumulative coal dispatches up to August totalled 412.07 MT, an increase from 391.93 MT in FY24.
